Hello, my name is Sophia. I have over a decade of experience studying piano and have completed the Certificate of Performance. I am currently preparing for my Associate Diploma (AMusA). My training has been shaped by several teachers from the Soviet piano tradition, which has provided me with a strong technical foundation and a deep commitment to expressive, nuanced playing.
I offer private piano lessons for children from beginner level through to Grade 5. Based in the Hills area, I’m available to travel to your home for lessons, providing a convenient and comfortable learning environment. My teaching approach is supportive and structured, aimed at fostering both technical confidence and a genuine love for music.
My son has been taking piano lessons in Normanhurst, and the experience has been fantastic. As a beginner, he needed a patient teacher, and that’s exactly what we found. Every lesson is engaging and perfectly paced for children, making learning enjoyable rather than stressful. The instructor provides clear instructions and encourages him to practice regularly without pressure. I also love how lessons incorporate fun exercises that build both skills and confidence. My son is excited to attend every week and often shares what he’s learned at home. These piano lessons have made a real difference in his musical development. I highly recommend them to any parent seeking a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
We enrolled our daughter in piano lessons in Normanhurst, and the results have been amazing. The teacher is incredibly kind, patient, and truly understands how to teach young beginners. Lessons are structured but lively, keeping children motivated and interested in learning. I appreciate the regular feedback on her progress and the clear guidance on what to practice at home. She has grown so confident in just a few months and even enjoys showing off new skills to family. The nurturing approach makes every class a positive experience. Piano has become her favorite activity of the week. I couldn’t be happier with the progress she’s making under such thoughtful instruction.
My daughter has been attending piano lessons in Normanhurst, and I’m extremely pleased with her progress. The teacher is patient, encouraging, and skilled at keeping lessons fun while teaching proper technique. She feels comfortable asking questions and enjoys the variety of activities included in each session. The lessons are tailored to her ability, which helps her develop steadily without feeling overwhelmed. I also value the communication with parents and the tips provided to support practice at home. My daughter looks forward to every class and has developed a genuine love for music. These lessons are ideal for any child starting their piano journey. I highly recommend them to families looking for quality, personalised instruction.
I believe in building strong fundamentals—technique, expression, and musicianship—from the very beginning. Our teaching approach combines classical training with an encouraging, personalised environment to help each student grow with confidence.
Whether your child is just starting out or preparing for formal exams, we’re here to support their journey every step of the way—with patience, passion, and professionalism.
01.
Most children are ready to begin piano lessons around 5 to 7 years old, once they can recognize letters and numbers. However, every child is different — we also offer early beginner lessons for younger children who show musical curiosity and focus.
02.
The Beginner Level introduces the basics — how to sit correctly, use the hands properly, and recognize simple notes and rhythms.
Once your child is comfortable, they move on to Grade 1–3, where they start learning scales, playing short classical and modern songs, and reading more complex music.
Grades 4 and 5 help students develop performance confidence and advanced techniques for exams and recitals.
03.
Yes! Our lessons follow the AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) syllabus, and we can also prepare students for Trinity or ABRSM exams. This gives children clear goals, structured progress, and recognition for their hard work.
04.
Lesson lengths depend on your child’s level and attention span:
Beginner Level: 30 minutes
Grades 1–3: 30 to 45 minutes
Grades 4–5: 45 to 60 minutes
Shorter sessions keep younger students focused while ensuring steady progress.
05.
Yes, regular practice is important. A keyboard with full-sized, weighted keys is a great starting option. As your child progresses, an acoustic piano is ideal. Our teachers can suggest affordable options for beginners.
06.
Every child learns at their own pace, but on average:
Beginner to Grade 1: 6–12 months
Grades 1–3: 1 year per grade
Grades 4–5: 12–18 months per grade
Progress depends on consistent lessons and practice habits at home.
07.
Consistency matters more than duration. We recommend:
Beginners: 10–15 minutes a day
Grades 1–3: 20–30 minutes a day
Grades 4–5: 30–45 minutes a day
Daily practice helps build muscle memory, confidence, and enjoyment.
